Woman in court on poisoning charges

A woman has appeared in court accused of poisoning her ex-lover and his fiancee.

Lakhvir Kaur Singh, 39, faced Ealing Magistrates Court in West London on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Lakhvinder Cheema, also 39, died in London's West Middlesex Hospital on Wednesday after it is believed he ate food laced with a toxic substance

His fiancee, Gurjeet Kaur, 21, remains in hospital where her condition is said by police to be improving.

Tests are being carried out to establish precisely what caused the death of Mr Cheema.

Speaking in court through a Punjabi interpreter, Singh, of Marlborough Road, Southall, spoke only to confirm her name and address.

She was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on May 8.
