A woman has been mercilessly mocked for apparently trying to sell four 50p Peter Rabbit coins for the price of £1.
The unnamed woman was asked “if she was joking” and mocked for her “business sense” after she uploaded a Facebook post offering the four 50p coins from the Royal Mint’s Peter Rabbit collection for £1.
After the post was shared on the Plymouth Gossip Girls Facebook group with the strange advertisement, members began to mock the woman for selling the legal tender for half its usual value.
And the Beatrix Potter commemorative coins could actually be worth far more.
Members of the group pointed out that similar coins have sold four thousands of pounds in the past.
"Why are you selling £2 for £1!?!?!?" one person said. "It's like me selling you a £10 note and saying you can have it for a fiver!"
"Because it's a double Peter Rabbit," said the seller.
Others pointed out that the collectible coin was being sold by other users for upwards of £1,750, with a similar coin from 2016 selling for £5,000 earlier this year.
She posted: 'I will separate the bundle but will sell all four for £1 as there are two the same."
The set included two Peter Rabbit coins, one Jeremy Fisher coin and one depicting Tom Kitten.
Coins from the range are available on eBay now for up to £3,000, plus £7.50 postage. A full set of hand-painted coins are also available for £350. Boxed and rare version of the coins are selling for over £1,000 each.
Eventually the seller cancelled the offer.
One user, Stephanie, said the offer "makes a nice change, usually people are trying to sell 50p for £10," according to the local Plymouth Herald.
