Homeless Veterans: This money will make sure veterans are never forgotten, says David Beckham

David Beckham: ‘Everyone who has supported the campaign should be applauded ... they are letting our soldiers know they are not on their own’

David Beckham today thanked everybody who has donated to the Homeless Veterans campaign, saying their generosity will ensure that “our veterans are never forgotten.”

The former England captain, who said he is a “proud supporter” of everything that the Armed Forces do, is the latest high-profile supporter of the appeal.

He said: “The men and women of our Armed Forces serve their country, putting their lives on the line, and never ask for anything in return. It’s always a privilege to meet them and I am a proud supporter of everything they do. The Homeless Veterans appeal has shown us that sometimes veterans need our help, whether they are out on the streets, living in a hostel or need help keeping warm in their own homes in winter.”

The campaign, which has also been supported by Angelina Jolie Pitt, Prince William and all three major party leaders, is raising money for two military charities — ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and Veterans Aid.

Beckham said: “Everyone who has supported the campaign and given money should be applauded... they are letting them know they are not on their own. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and Veterans Aid are doing such a great job, they support our soldiers for life. It’s important we never forget the sacrifices made in keeping our country safe, and the money you have all raised will make sure our veterans are never forgotten.”

Lord Ashcroft, who has pledged a donation to Homeless Veterans, said: “I am delighted to be supporting this extremely worthy cause. I am well aware that many veterans find the transition from military life to civilian life extremely difficult. Some veterans end up homeless, through no fault of their own, and we need to do all we can to support those who have bravely served their Queen and country”.
