An adorable Tongan schoolboy dozed on the floor with boredom as he waited for Prince Harry and Meghan to arrive to meet the nation's prime minister.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have delighted fans in Australia, Fiji and Tonga during their 16-day royal tour.

But the young boy was royally unimpressed as he waited for the pair to arrive at St George Government Building on Friday.

The young boy lay face down on the floor among rows of well-wishers waiting to meet the royal couple and appeared to nod off slightly as he waited.

In their first engagement on Friday, which included a meeting with the Tongan prime minister and cabinet members, the royal couple were greeted by more than 50 civil servants wearing red and black shirts and traditional outfits.

A young boy and a girl held a sign offering free hugs to the couple, which Meghan, wearing a striped olive green and white calf length Martin Grant dress, spotted and smiled at.

The sign featured hand drawn red love hearts, a crown and traditional flower, as well as the names Malo, Lelei, Harry and Meghan.

The boy then appeared to decide the event was too much for him.

He ducked under the barrier and lay face down on the floor where Meghan and Harry entered the building.

After he woke up, the boy set about trying to finally get a hug with Harry.

And he succeeded, with Harry kneeling to hug the youngster as Meghan watched with glee.

Pictures shared online showed the touching moment.

The duke said the entertainment at an official welcome reception was "very good" as he met the Tongan prime minister.

The couple then took the lift to meet prime minister Akilisi Pohiva and his cabinet, with Harry asking: "Did you enjoy last night? The entertainment was very good."

The remainder of the meeting was held in private.

The Sussexes went on to Tupou College where they dedicated two forest reserves to the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy before leaving from Fua'amotu airport for Sydney.

The duke and duchess will now fly back to Sydney and attend the Australian Geographic Society Awards at the Shangri-La Hotel on Friday evening.
