Animal lovers are sharing adorable photos of their furry friends after one asked: “if your pet was on a dating app, post the picture that would be their profile pic”.

The original Tweet, of a cat staring into the distance, has garnered thousands of likes as people rushed to share their own images.

An adorable picture of a kitten with its paws up was shared in response, as was one of a grinning dog with the caption “he has the best smile”.

Others including a dog with its head out of a car window, which one person captioned: “Wanna go cruising babe?”.

As well as these there were cats in bow-ties and a picture of “the happiest dog that ever dogged”.

One person shared the post and responses, writing: “C'mon people, THIS is what the internet is for (non-human animal friends).”

Another said: “Looking at this is my new full time job now.”

Many others said they loved the post and one encouraged “everyone with a pet” to get involved.

The original poster, Ricki Tarr whose Twitter handle was @ShootyDooty, was told it was a “brilliant idea for a thread”.

They replied: “It’s so much fun!”
