Bud Light's Super Bowl advert enrages corn farmers after bragging it does not use syrup from the plant in its recipe

Corn farmers in the US have been left furious by Bud Light adverts aired during the Super Bowl which bragged its recipe does not contain syrup from the plant.

The beer company boasted how the product uses rice instead to sweeten its brew, prompting some farmers to take cans of the beer and pour it down the drain.

In the promotional videos fictional Bud Light characters visited rival breweries with an unwanted barrel of corn syrup.

Sharing one on Twitter, Bud Light wrote: "To be clear, Bud Light is not brewed with corn syrup, and Miller Lite and Coors Light are."

This has been taken badly by corn farmers who felt it bismirches their produce.

The National Corn Growers Association wrote to Bud Light: "America’s corn farmers are disappointed in you. Our office is right down the road! We would love to discuss with you the many benefits of corn! Thanks Miller Light and Coors Lite for supporting our industry."

Corn farmer Kevin Ross poured a Bud Light down his sink in a video on Twitter.

He said: "Bud Light - you're not standing with corn farmers, we're not standing with you."

Another farmer wrote: "For the record: The fact that Bud Light isn’t made with corn isn’t an issue. Most of us already knew that. It’s the fact that Bud Light, and now MillerCoors advertised it in a way that insinuates that Corn is bad when in fact it isn’t.!

Miller Lite also hit back at the ads and said: "We have more taste and half the carbs."

It has since been reported that Anheuser-Busch, which produces Bud Light, has attempted to make amends for the offence caused.

The vice president for communications of the National Corn Grower's association said a representative emailed the group late on Sunday "looking to make it right", CNN reported.

The Standard has contacted Bud Light's parent company Anheuser-Busch for comment.
