Donald Trump describes Russia probe as 'ridiculous bulls***' in furious verbal attack at Grand Rapids rally

Donald Trump has launched an extraordinary attack on Robert Mueller’s Russia probe and accused Democrats of “defrauding” Americans with “ridiculous bulls***”.

The fired-up president turned the findings of the special counsel’s investigation into a political weapon as he addressed crowds at a campaign rally in Michigan.

Mr Trump described the inquiry as the “greatest hoax in the history of our country” and warned that those behind the probe would be held accountable”.

"After three years of lies and smears and slander, the Russia hoax is dead," the US leader said at the rally on Thursday night. "This was nothing more than a sinister effort to undermine our historic election victory and to sabotage the will of the American people".

The Grand Rapids rally was Mr Trump’s first political event since the Russia probe found no evidence that his campaign "conspired or coordinated" with the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Mr Trump said the investigation was an attempt to "overturn the will of the people" and that many "innocent people" were swept up in the probe.

"Robert Mueller was a god to Democrats. He was a god to them. Now they don't like him much now,” he told the crowd.

The president linked the report with the myriad investigations launched by House Democrats and tried to make the case that, after Mr Mueller's findings, further probes are partisan overreach.

"The Democrats now have to decide if they will continue to defraud the American public with this ridiculous bulls***," said Mr Trump, who urged the opposing party to instead work with him on issues like infrastructure repair and drug pricing.

Mr Trump stood before a giant American flag and signs reading "Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!" and "Make America Great Again” as he delivered the speech to a crowd of more than 10,000 people.

Mr Mueller's report stretches more than 300 pages, according to a Justice Department official. But the four-page summary released on Sunday has been seized upon by the Republican president and his allies as a weapon to use against Democrats, the so-called Deep State and the media.
