Three people were rescued after vehicles plunged into a river when the highway bridge linking Seattle with Canada collapsed.

Authorities said there were no deaths. Resident Xavier Grospe said he could see three partially-submerged cars and the drivers sitting on top of them or on the edge of open windows.

A boat was filmed leaving the scene with a person strapped into a stretcher. The bridge was built in 1955 and is listed as “functionally obsolete” meaning its design is outdated.
