Josh Freese has been announced as the Foo Fighters’ new drummer following the death of Taylor Hawkins last year.
The news was announced at 8pm on Sunday during the Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts livestream that previewed the band’s upcoming album.
Freese is an American session drummer. He is the son of tuba soloist Stan Freese and the older brother of musician Jason Freese.
The 50-year-old has previously played drums for Guns N’ Roses, Sting, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer and Sublime with Rome.
He performed with Foo Fighters for the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in 2022 and is now set to join the band as Hawkins’ replacement this year.
Foo Fighters will release their first album since the death of Hawkins next month.
But Here We Are is the follow-up to 2021’s Medicine at Midnight and is billed as “a brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year”.
Hawkins, 50, was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia in March 2022, hours before the band were due to play a festival.
He recorded eight studio albums with the band and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2021.
The latest album is released on June 2.
