Around 100 nudists have tested positive for coronavirus at a naturist resort in France, according to reports.

A Covid-19 screening drive-in was set up in front of the Cap d'Agde resort - 30 miles from Montpellier, French 3 reported.

The publication said that the testing centre was set up after two employees in a hotel came down with the disease.

At the height of the season, 35-40,000 people live in the naturist village.

Pierre Ricordeau, general manager of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie told France 3 this week: "For the first time, the incidence rate has exceeded the threshold of 50 per 100,000. It is a very rapid development. We are struck by the acceleration of the last few days.

"They are mainly young people, they are not serious cases. The situation is not yet catastrophic, but it is worrying and requires a reaction," he added.

More tests will reportedly be carried out while the four bars and party venues in the area have been closed.

Since Tuesday, the wearing of a mask has been mandatory in the naturist village by prefectural decree, France 3 reported.
