A goalkeeper has died after colliding with a teammate during a match which was broadcast on live television.

Choirul Huda, 38, was pronounced dead after the accident during Sunday’s match between Persela and Semen Padang in the Indonesia Super League.

Huda, who played for Persela, rushed out to collect a ball in the first half and collided with teammate Ramon Rodrigues.

He was still conscious immediately after the accident, with footage showing him clutching his face in agony.

He was rushed to hospital but Persela coach Aji Santoso confirmed later that he had died.

He said: “All of the players finished the game and went to the hospital, where it was announced that Choirul Huda had died.

“The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard.”

His club, which he had played for since 1999, described him in a tweet as "the real legend of Persela".

Huda died as result of head and neck trauma, Dr Zaki Mubarok said.
