Greek fury at German envoy

Dozens of anti-austerity protesters clashed with Greek riot police today as they demonstrated against the presence of a German government official at a mayoral conference in Thessaloniki.

The protesting municipal workers pushed and threw coffee at a German diplomat before forcing open shutters and entering the building. Germany is the biggest contributor to Greece’s rescue loans and has been one of the most vocal advocates of tough austerity measures in Athens.
