Jamie Oliver’s Istanbul restaurant has gone bust after its parent company recorded losses of nearly £10m last year.

The Jamie’s Italian branch in the Turkish city’s Zorlu Centre, one of 42 around the world, opened early in 2013.

It narrowly avoiding bankruptcy less than two years later and now the Turkish courts have ruled that the company must go into liquidation and the restaurant has shut its doors.

An appeal has been lodged against the decision, the Daily Sabah reported.

A spokeswoman for Jamie Oliver said: “The Turkish court has ruled in favour of a bankruptcy against our Turkish franchise partner who operates Jamie’s Italian in Istanbul.

“We are disappointed that our partner has not been able to secure a favourable solution to its on-going business challenges.

“We’ve supported them during the last three years in hope that the business challenges could be overcome.

“We will do all that we can to help support the redeployment of all of the Jamie's Italian colleagues within the wider restaurant group estate.”

The Jamie’s Italian franchise has reportedly seen profits plummet by 78 per cent in 2016, with six of its British branches closing including one in central London.
