A jumbo jet has got stuck after it landed at the wrong airport - and now doesn't have enough room to take off.

The Boeing 747 plane became stranded at Jabara airport in Kansas and is unable to turn around, according to local station KCHW Eyewitness News.

Attempts have been made to tow the plane, which is reportedly too long for the runway, into position for take off.

Reports also suggested the tow employed to move the plane had broken down.

In audio from the Live Air Traffic control website, the Dreamliner pilots can be heard saying: "Ahh, yes sir, we just landed at the other airport."

The massive jet, which is used to carry the huge assembled components of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was meant to land at McConnell Air Force Base late on Wednesday night.

In a statement Boeing confirmed the mistake and said it was working to "determine next steps".
