Locals in Istanbul save tourist's car from falling into the sea

Hannah Al-Othman14 August 2015

A tourist's car was saved from plunging backwards into the Bosphorus sea by thoughtful passersby who jumped on the bonnet to stop it from falling.

According to Turkish media, the tourist was visiting a museum in the Beşiktaş district on the European side of Istanbul, and had parked their hire car close to the water, but forgot to secure the handbrake.

Quick-thinking locals saw the car start to slowly slide towards the water, and immediately jumped on the bonnet to redress the weight balance and stop the vehicle from falling into the strait.

They then sat on the bonnet waiting patiently for the fire brigade to arrive with a lifting crane to pull the car out.

In the meantime, police officers searched the museum to find the car’s owner, who reportedly panicked once he learned about the incident.

Luckily, nobody was injured during the incident.
