A major manhunt has been launched in Germany after a man allegedly stabbed his nine-year-old neighbour to death and uploaded a video of the dead child’s body online.

German police are looking for the 19-year-old suspect, who could be armed, after he shared a video of him boasting about the alleged murder on the internet.

A member of the public called police in Bochum, western Germany, late on Monday amid fears a killing had taken place in the town of Herne which is nearby.

The body of a nine-year-old boy was found in the basement of a house. The suspect, who is thought to be a martial arts enthusiast, is said to be the victim’s neighbour.

A photo and video of the suspect gloating next to the victim’s bloodied body was shared on the so-called “dark web” – part of the internet which is invisible on the open internet and is where illegal activity takes place.

The images later appeared on social media sites, police spokesman Volker Schuette said.
