Michael Schumacher is slowly being brought out of the medically-induced coma he was in after a ski crash, his manager said.

Sabine Kehm confirmed today that the seven-time Formula One racing champion is being woken up a month after he was taken to hospital with head injuries after slamming it on a rock.

The German was skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel on December 29 when he fell and hit the right side of his head on a rock.

He was taken for treatment by specialists at Grenoble University Hospital, where he has remained in a coma since.

Mr Kehm said today: "Michael's sedation is being reduced in order to allow the start of the waking up process which may take long time."
