The Perseid Meteor shower has returned for its annual show, lighting up the night sky for stargazers.
Onlookers in the northern hemisphere were able to see the fantastic show, where astronomers said hundreds of shooting starts were set to streak across the sky.
The spectacular sight occurs every August between the 12th and 13th and the peak time to see it was Sunday night.
It occurs every year as the Earth ploughs through dusty debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle.
As the particles, ranging in size from a grain of sand to a pea, hit the Earth's atmosphere at 37 miles per second, they burn up and streak across the sky.
Sunday’s show was predicted to be brighter than ever after a new moon provided an extra dark backdrop to the sight.
A meteor shower lit up the skies above eastern Bosnia on Saturday night, giving star gazers a rare opportunity to see a display of shooting stars with the naked eye.
"I think that everybody should see this," said Miralem Mehic, a Bosnian from an international group of star gazers who watched the light show at the Sand Pyramids, near the town of Foca.
Unlike other star-gazing events, this show was particularly easy to watch for onlookers.
Dr Robert Massey, from the Royal Astronomical Society, said: "The shower will be visible all over the UK, as long as the skies are clear.
"Unlike a lot of celestial events, meteor showers are easy to watch and no special equipment is needed, although a reclining chair and a blanket make viewing much more comfortable."
