Real-life Gravity: Nasa releases breathtaking space pictures in wake of film's Oscar success

Staff Reporter5 March 2014

Sci-fi thriller Gravity was a big winner at this year's Oscars - and Nasa has taken the opportunity to remind everyone of the real wonders of space exploration.

The space agency has released a series of stunning images showing astronauts on space walks and the Earth as seen from the International Space Station.

But while the film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney amazed audiences with its CGI special effects, Nasa's pictures capture the real-life beauty of the solar system.

Gravity swept the board at the 86th Academy Awards, winning seven Oscars, including best visual effects, cinematography and original score.
