Sergei Polonsky, the Russian former tycoon, has been arrested in Cambodia after being named on Interpol’s “red list” for allegedly embezzling £110 million.

He was seized by police last night after fleeing into the jungle after receiving a tip-off that he was about to be captured.

The news was confirmed by Polonsky’s lawyer, Alexander Karabanoy, who said it was not known if the arrest was on Interpol’s orders or related to an accusation that Polonsky forced Cambodian sailors at knifepoint off a boat he hired to tour the coastline.

In September, a Russian court arrested Polonsky in absentia on charges of defrauding stakeholders over a Moscow residential development.

Polonsky has been living on his private island in Cambodia, Koh Dek Koul, from where he often used social media to protest his innocence.
