A Tesla car being driven by a British TV director burst into flames “out of the blue” in Los Angeles.

Actor Mary McCormack shared dramatic video showing the vehicle belonging to her husband Michael Morris in flames in the street,

She tweeted: “No accident, out of the blue, in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd. Thank you to the kind couple who flagged him down and told him to pull over. And thank god my three little girls weren’t in the car with him.”

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Tesla called the incident "an extraordinarily unusual occurrence" and said it is investigating.

The company, run by Elon Musk, has said its electric cars are less likely to catch fire than cars that run on fuel.

The blaze was distinguished after firefighters were called to the scene in Hollywood.

A Tesla spokesman told ABC News: "We offer our support to local authorities and are glad our customer is safe. This is an extraordinarily unusual occurrence, and we are investigating the incident to find out what happened."

Morris is a former director of the Old Vic theatre in London, and also directed hit TV show 13 Reasons Why.

He has been married to McCormack since 2003.
