Theresa May is planning to watch the France v England football the country’s president Emmanuel Macron when she visits Paris for talks.

The Prime Minister will meet Mr Macron in the French capital on Tuesday for talks over dinner on counter-terrorism in the wake of the recent attacks on London.

After their discussion, the pair are expected to head to the Stade de France to watch the two teams’ international friendly match together.

Mrs May's official spokesman said she and the president "had a very good discussion on counter-terrorism and the shared threat that the two countries face and on how they can work together to improve the security of all citizens".

He added: "In particular, they had a very good conversation on how they could work together in order to make social media companies do more to address the fact that their platforms are used to spread extremism and other material which can lead to terrorism."

"I would expect that conversation to continue tomorrow.

"They may well discuss aspects of Brexit, but the main conversation will be on counter-terrorism."
