At least 24 dead after tourist coach crashes with lorry in Brazil

At least 24 people were killed in a horror road crash involving a tourist coach and a mango lorry in Brazil.

The nationalities of those killed has not yet been revealed but it is known that seven were men and 17 were women.

One of the women who died was pregnant, according to the local volunteer brigade Anjos Jacuipenses.

Some 21 people on the tourist coach were killed, while three people in the lorry lost their lives.

The collision on the BR-324 road near to the municipality of Gaviao, in the north-east state Bahia, at 10.30pm local time on Sunday.

Both vehicles looked completely destroyed in photos and videos posted of the accident.

Disturbing footage shows dead bodies lined on the side of the road as firefighters work on the wreckage.

Survivors were taken to two hospitals but no information about their condition has been released yet.

On top of firefighters, military police and Federal Highway Police were all involved in responding.

Brigade Anjos Jacuipenses said: "On behalf of the entire team, we leave here our deep and sincere condolences to the entire family for such a tragedy and irreparable loss."
