Twitter down in UK and around the world after glitch with social media site

Twitter users around the world were left unable to access the social media site after it experienced an unexpected outage.

The website went down at around 3pm on Tuesday, reporting an unspecified technical error.

A message on the homepage said the site was “going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon”.

According to the Down Detector website, which tracks such errors, social media users reported the problem around the world.

The interactive map showed people reporting problems with Twitter across Europe, North America and Japan, among other places.

The site appeared to be up and working again around half an hour later. It was not specified what the problem was.
