Weiner: I’ll not quit New York mayoral race

New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has insisted he will not quit the race despite his spokeswoman insulting a former intern in an expletive-laden rant.

The humiliated politician, who has admitted exchanging racy messages with other women since resigning from Congress in 2011 over a similar scandal, released a video saying: “Quit is not the way we roll in New York City.”

It comes as his aide Barbara Morgan apologised for insulting the ex-intern who had written an unflattering portrayal of the campaign in a newspaper.

She called Olivia Nuzzi a “slutbag,” “tw*t” and “c**t” and described her as a fame-hungry “bitch” who “sucked” at her job.

Ms Morgan said: “In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off-the-record conversation. It was wrong and I am very sorry.”

In his latest video, Weiner said: “I know that there are newspaper editors, other politicians, that say, ‘Boy I wish that guy Weiner would quit’. You don’t know New York. You certainly don’t know me.”
