A toddler has been found dead in a house in "tragic circumstances".

Police said the death of the two-year-old boy is unexplained but they are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident.

An ambulance was called to the house in Donald Crescent in the Thornton area of Fife at around 8pm yesterday. Police were then informed and began an investigation into the circumstances of the death.

Officers remained at the property today and are said to be supporting the immediate family of the young boy.

Superintendent Dougie Milton said: "This is a tragic set of circumstances where, sadly, a two-year-old boy has lost his life.

"We are undertaking a thorough investigation and working with and supporting the immediate family. I can reassure the local community that at this time Police Scotland are not looking for anyone else in relation to this unexplained death."

As with all deaths, a report is to be sent to the procurator fiscal.
