Alastair Cook has been rested for the first warm-up against India A

England captain Alastair Cook has been rested for his side's first one-day warm-up against India A due to a slight cold.

Cook travelled to the Palam Services Ground with the rest of the side this morning but opted to return to the team hotel after plummeting temperatures and low-lying fog forced a delay to the start of play.

The umpires delayed the toss for half an hour, with Eoin Morgan taking over from Cook as skipper as England bowled first.

The tourists included Jos Buttler ahead of Joe Root in the top six, with Stuart Meaker and Danny Briggs the others to miss out.

The brief delay meant a reduction from 50 to 49 overs per innings, with play beginning at 9.30am (4am GMT).

Just five overs were possible from opening pair Steven Finn and Jade Dernbach before the umpires removed the players for bad light.

India A were 15-0 at the time, with most runs coming in the third-man region.
