Hoy and Kenny surge into final

Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Kenny progressed to the keirin final Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne, but fellow Briton Matt Crampton missed out and will now compete in the minor final.

Hoy - the 2007, 2008 and 2010 world champion and Olympic champion in Beijing in the event which begins behind a motorised Derny bike - won his second round contest, with Mickael Bourgain of France second and Kenny third to advance. Crampton was fifth.

Earlier in the day, Hoy was a comfortable winner of his heat while Kenny and Crampton both finished second to go through.
