Technology trial in Southampton

Goal-line technology
16 May 2012

Goal-line technology will be trialled live for the first time in Wednesday night's Hampshire FA Senior Cup final in Southampton.

Independent testers EMPA will put the Hawk-Eye technology through its paces in the fixture between AFC Totton and Eastleigh FC at St Mary's Stadium.

The system will not be used by match officials for any key decisions, with only the EMPA observer in the stadium having access to the system readings during the trial.

Tests are also being conducted for the GoalRef system in Denmark and the Football Association hopes they will lead to the introduction of goal-line technology this summer.

The International Football Association Board will hold a special meeting in Kiev on July 2.

The two Danish GoalRef trials will be held on May 20, when Silkeborg IF play SonderjyskE, and in the May 23 fixture between FC Nordsjælland and AC Horsens.
