Warrington want Grand Final revenge

Warrington will attempt to put six months of hurt behind them when they take on Super League champions Leeds in Sunday evening's Grand Final rematch.

The clash at Headingley will be the first meeting of the clubs since the Rhinos ruined the Wolves' maiden Old Trafford appearance with a 26-18 victory in October to complete a hat-trick of title triumphs.

"I know for a lot of people, players and fans included, that game hurt," said Warrington forward Mike Cooper. "But it was something we had to put to bed fairly quickly. It's a new season now and we are over a third of the way through the competition. It will be one of our first really big tests this Sunday so it's going to be an exciting one."

Warrington have yet to consistently reproduce the form that took them to a first Grand Final but they have had one eye on this match for some time. Coach Tony Smith rotated his squad over Easter to ensure his seasoned players would be fresh to take on the champions and their only absentees are long-term casualties Adrian Morley and Lee Briers.

Leeds are traditional slow starters but they have begun to hit their straps, most notably against Catalan Dragons in the south of France on Easter Monday. The club chartered a flight to enable them to fly in and out of Perpignan on the day and give coach Brian McDermott more time to prepare his team for the Warrington game.

"We are in good shape," McDermott said.

"A lot of planning went into the trip to make sure we were in the best possible shape for the game and then obviously to get back home and ready for another big challenge on Sunday.

"Warrington have carried on where they left off last season and once again are one of the front runners in the competition.

"They have kept the same group of players together that has been so successful in recent years and they will want to build on that momentum."

The Rhinos have lost prop Ryan Bailey through suspension and have injury doubts over Ian Kirke and Brett Delaney but full-back Zak Hardaker is set make his return from a broken thumb.
