How did you get in to running in the first place?

In my late twenties I started dating a guy who was very sporty. He introduced me to hiking, climbing and cycling and before long I was running too. The romance didn't last but I fell in love with the great outdoors and the feeling I got after doing some exercise. I love running because I can do it anywhere, anytime and its free.

What races have you run?

I started with a 5k Race For Life because the distance seemed achievable. Since then I have run in the Great Capital Run and will do the Royal Parks half-marathon in October where the scenery will be spectacular. 10k is the longest I have run so far so the half-marathon will be my biggest challenge yet. I am a little nervous about it but I have learned that it is best not be complacent. Each race is a challenge.

Do you have a running buddy?

I sometimes run with friends but I prefer to be alone with my thoughts and I love the medative quality of running in nature.

How do you train?

I run 4- 5 times a week and try to change my circuit regularly. At the moment I am incorporating some interval training into my run and speed up a local hill at least 10 times.

What are the highs and lows?

There are so many highs. The fantastic endorphin release which leaves me feeling calm and centred. My weight is more or less static even though I eat quite large amounts! My face is always tighter and less puffy after a good run and my legs and bum are more shapely than in my early 20s. On the downside - If I'm training for a race it's sometimes difficult to motivate myself on a daily basis. I get bored quite easily and yet another one hour run can be tedious to begin with.

What tips would you give to others?

Buy some decent trainers - they don't have to be expensive but should offer good support. Once around the block is better than nothing and just getting outside will cheer you up and clear your head.

What charity do you run for and what made you want to support them?

I run for Cancer Research. This disease has effected quite a few members of my family including my mother so it is very close to my heart.

What keeps you motivated?

I can't imagine not exercising now. I know that it is a fantastic stress buster and has the added benefit of helping me to look younger stay healthy.
