Amber Heard has thanked fans for their "overwhelming support" following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The DC superhero sequel, which also stars Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman, was delayed several times before eventually arriving in cinemas at the end of last year, to disappointing box office returns

In the flick, cinemagoers saw the 37-year-old actor reprise her role of superheroine Mera from 2018’s original Aquaman, still the highest-grossing DC Studios movie in history.

Taking to Instagram, Heard wrote alongside several photos of her filming the follow-up: “After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy)

“Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much”.

In 2022, Heard became embroiled in a highly publicised legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, who sued her for $50m (£38.2m) for implying he abused her in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed.

During the six-week defamation trial, Heard testified that her role in Aquaman’s sequel became “very pared down” amid negative attention on her personal life.

However, the film’s director James Wan countered Heard’s claims in September when he told Entertainment Weekly that her character's reduced screen time was always part of the plan for the franchise.

At the end of the case, the jury determined Heard defamed Depp on all three counts and awarded him $10m (£8.2m) in compensatory damages and $5m (£4.1m) in punitive damages.

While the Rum Diaries star was awarded $2m (£1.6m) in compensatory damages.

Following her legal woes, Heard reportedly “quit Hollywood” and has since sold her home in California and relocated to Madrid, Spain.
