Amy Childs has been blasted as "too fake" for 'The Only Way Is Essex'.

Show bosses claim the 21-year-old star - who quit the ITV2 series to appear on 'Celebrity Big Brother' - stopped being a real Essex girl during the second season of 'TOWIE' because she was so preoccupied with becoming a celebrity.

Producer Ruth Wrigley said: "Amy wasn't big in series two because she stopped having a real life.

"She was writing columns and waiting for filming."

Meanwhile, Claire Zolkwer, ITV2 commissioning editor, thinks the departure of the redhead beauty will be a "good" thing for the show.

She added: "'Corrie' wouldn't be entertaining if there were one million Ken Barlows in it. Amy leaving is part of change and I think it will be good for the show. It feels like when Martine McCutcheon left 'EastEnders'.

"You need regeneration, growth and change and Amy's exit is part of that."

'TOWIE' bosses also stood by their decision to only pay the show's stars - including Mark Wright, Lauren Goodger and Joey Essex - £50-per-day, claiming the cast make "loads of money" off the back of the series.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Ruth explained: "These guys aren't actors. They're not working. It's like the amount you get when you're on jury service or if you go in the 'Big Brother' house.

"They make loads of money off the back of it."
