Anna Friel is to take the role of Holly Golightly in a West End stage version of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Elegant: Anna Friel as Holly Golightly

The show, at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, from 9 September, comes almost half a century since Truman Capote's New York society girl was famously incarnated by Audrey Hepburn in the classic 1961 film.

Friel, 32, said: "I am delighted to play one of my all-time favourite heroines." US actor Joseph Cross, who played opposite Sean Penn in the film Milk, will play struggling writer and Golightly's hapless love interest Paul "Fred" Varjak.

The show will retain Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer's Oscar-winning song Moon River and will be directed by Sean Mathias. Booking is now open.
