Dame Helen Mirren thinks David Beckham could break into movies - but suggested a silent role might be best for the footballer.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who has just added two more trophies to her bulging awards cabinet, said the former England captain was "possibly one of the most beautiful men in the world".

Beckham's forthcoming move to America to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in a £128 million deal has prompted widespread speculation that he will make a move into the showbiz world, although his public relations team insist he will stick to football.

Others have suggested his high-pitched, squeaky Essex accent might be an impediment to silver screen stardom.

But Dame Helen told USA Today: "If he had a role where he didn't have a big, long speech, maybe a silent role, I think he'd be wonderful in that."

Beckham, wife Victoria and the couple's three sons will move to LA in the summer.

Dame Helen is widely tipped for an Oscar for her title role in The Queen.

She has already bagged a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for the part.
