Bob Mortimer has revealed that he recently had to spend time in hospital and says he’s “not very healthy at the moment”.

The comedian, 63, gave a health update while appearing on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in London on Monday.

He explained: “I am not very well. I am not very healthy at the moment.”

The comic - who had triple heart bypass surgery in 2015 - then went on to discuss his secret hospital dash which he said happened while he was working on a fishing show last week.

The job called for two and half days of filming, which he said ended on Thursday.

As reported by The Sun, he said: “I did it Tuesday, Wednesday and half of Thursday and I was in hospital on the Saturday. I’m sorry I shouldn’t have said that should I? It’s a real downer.”

Mortimer is also said to have also discussed having rheumatoid arthritis during the podcast appearance.

According to the outlet, he recalled how he had initially been diagnosed with the condition forty years ago and said it returned recently after decades without it.

Mortimer’s health woes do not end there.

During an episode of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, which aired on September 9, he said that he was on a “mission” to decrease his 102cm waist size for health reasons.

Mortimer discovered his cancer risk with co-presenter Paul Whitehouse, after they had compared waist sizes following a study they came across predicting risk of the disease in relation to height and weight.

In scenes obtained by The Mirror, Mortimer explained: “We looked into it because we wondered a little bit, but it was true 22 cancers come onto the table if, as a fella, your waist is over 102cm, and it’s less if you’re Asian, 96 If you’re Asian.”

After learning that he measures 104cm at the waist, Mortimer said: “I am going to make it my mission to get under 102!”
