As crimefighting partners in their 1980s heyday, they brought grit and glamour to the small screen.

More than 25 years on, the faces may be a little fuller but there's no mistaking the famous features of Cagney and Lacey.

Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, the stars who portrayed the feisty detectives, were reunited in Los Angeles yesterday at a launch of a DVD of the television series, which began in 1981.

Since then Miss Daly, 61, who played Mary Beth Lacey, has changed from brunette to a dignified grey.

Sixty-three-year-old Miss Gless, who played Christine Cagney, has decided to stick with a blonde look.

A fan at the launch said: "It was such a shock to see them after all this time."

The show won numerous awards but the partnership ended in 1988 after seven series.
