Adele has reportedly been approached to play a villain in Matthew Vaughn's new spy film The Secret Service along with the likes of David Beckham and Sir Elton John.

The 25-year-old singer, who sang the theme tune to Bond blockbuster Skyfall, is said to have landed a cameo role as a baddie in the film.

A source told The Sun: "Adele is exactly what Matthew is looking for.

"He wants the highest-profile names in various fields to boost the film's cause and turn it into a mega-money franchise.

"You can't get much bigger than Adele in music, which is why he's so keen to get her involved. She'll be great value on the big screen."

The film stars Colin Firth and Sir Michael Caine as superagents fighting a team of villains headed by Samuel L. Jackson, and will feature cameo appearances from a range of A-list stars. The film is based on a spy graphic novel by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.

Vaughn, who previously directed another Millar comic book adaptation 'Kick-Ass', as well as 'X-Men: First Class', previously offered the part to Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio.

A spokesman for Adele has refused to comment.
