Idris Elba will get his day in court playing Jessica Chastain's lawyer in a new film from Aaron Sorkin.

The Luther star, named best actor at the Evening Standard Film Awards for his child soldier drama Beasts of No Nation, joins a cast including Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio in the true story of an LA waitress who runs underground poker games for Hollywood high-rollers.

Chastain takes the title role in Molly's Game which will be Sorkin's debut as a director after success as a writer with movies including Moneyball and Steve Jobs.

Other casting announcements from the industry get together in the south of France include Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson teaming up with Spiderman actor Andrew Garfield for crime drama Under the Silver Lake and Ellen Page set to star in a zombie horror film The Third Wave.

Carey Mulligan is New Orleans bound to star in a movie about returning soldiers facing racism in America's deep south, while former Royal Court and Royal Shakespeare Company director Dominic Cooke is going behind the camera to direct Saoirse Ronan in adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel On Chesil Beach.
