Cara Delevingne wants to raise awareness for mental health.

Delevingne, 23 – who recently revealed she suffers from depression – highlighted the importance of speaking up about mental disorders.

"Mental illness goes unseen, but hopefully, I don't want it to be unheard,” she told E!. “I want to speak up for it.

"A lot of people I've loved in my life suffer from [depression], including myself...One of the main things is talking about it, using your voice."

Delevingne’s comments come weeks after she told fans that she took a break from modelling after suffering a "rough patch of self-hatred".

Speaking to Rupert Everett during a Q&A last year, the Suicide Squad actress said: “I think I pushed myself so far that I got to the point where I had a mental breakdown.

“I got to the point where I went a bit mad. I was completely suicidal, I didn't want to live any more. I thought that I was completely alone.

“I also realised how lucky I was, and what a wonderful family and wonderful friends I had, but that didn't matter. I wanted the world to swallow me up."
