Carrie Fisher has claimed that she had an ‘intense’ on-set affair with Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford.

Nearly 40 years after they shot the first film in the franchise, the US actress has revealed that the on-screen lovers were also having a passionate relationship off-screen.

Fisher, 60, who played Princess Leia in the iconic sci-fi films, has said that she enjoyed a three-month affair with the then married father-of-two when she was 19 and he was 33.

Speaking about going public with the affair in her forthcoming book, Fisher told People:

“It was so intense. It was Han and Leia during the week and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.”

In new book The Princess Diarist, Fisher writes: “I looked over at Harrison. A hero's face - a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow.

"How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?

"I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him - he was kind.”

While Ford is yet to comment on the claims, he was reportedly sent a first draft of the book ahead of publication.

Fisher has since denied that she wrote about their sex life in the book, saying that some lines had been taken out of context.

She wrote on Twitter: “I couldnt get twitter working on my new phone so Ive been away during this out of context book excerpt time. (sic)

“I would never talk about how someone was in any furniture--chair, bed, coffee table or otherwise.”

Fisher and Ford recently reunited to star together in The Force Awakens.
