Chris Evans has been reprimanded for promoting his Channel 4 show TFI Friday on BBC Radio 2.

The new Top Gear host has received a formal warning after a viewer complained about repeated mentions of the TV programme, which is on a rival station.

According to the BBC’s Editorial Complaints Unit, Evans’ references to the show were ‘largely promotional in character’.

After an investigation into complaint, the unit ruled: “As the producers of TFI Friday profit from the sale to Channel 4, it comes within the scope of the editorial guidelines dealing with references to commercial products, organizations and services.

“The references to TFI Friday were largely promotional in character, and more numerous than was editorially justifiable.”

Evans is thought to have received a verbal warning from producers following the ruling after being called into a management meeting.

The presenter fronted 10 new episodes of the iconic 90s programme last year, although there are currently no plans for it to return for another series.

Evans is currently filming the new series of Top Gear alongside co-host Matt LeBlanc, which will air at the end of May.
