Singer Chris Martin surprised bar goers when he took to the stage for an impromptu gig at a venue in New Delhi.

The Coldplay frontman strode into Delhi's Summer House bar on Wednesday and entertained revellers with acoustic renditions of a handful of his biggest hits.

Martin - who sang Fix It, Paradise and Viva La Vida - was joined by Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto who showed off her best dance moves.

The pair were also joined by composer Vishal Dadlani who, clearly excited to be on stage with Martin, posted a photo to show his followers.

He captioned the shot: “What can I say, really? Tonight was BIG. On stage with Chris Martin singing to a stunned Delhi crowd. They lost their shiz! :).”

Dadlani also confirmed that the gig wasn’t planned, tweeting: “It wasn't an event. We were at a dinner together, and he just went 'let's go play somewhere'! And, boom!"

Also lucky enough to catch the impromptu performance was musician Ragu Dixit who described the whole experience as "surreal".

"Most surreal experience last night! Met n sang for the amazing @ChrisOfColdplay and the gorgeous @BecauseImFreida!," he tweeted.

Martin's performance comes days after it was revealed that the musician has split for a second time from Jennifer Lawrence.

The pair met in August last year, before splitting in winter and reuniting in December, but a source told US Weekly that the relationship has now “run its course”.
