James Corden is tipped to become a “global star” by man who knows a thing or two about the movies —Hollywood heavyweight Harvey Weinstein.
The Gavin & Stacey actor, 34, has just finished starring in the biopic of Britain’s Got Talent singer Paul Potts, One Chance, which is being produced by Weinstein.
The movie mogul cast Corden after seeing him in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway. Weinstein said he had “many interesting choices” to play Potts but “I just didn’t see it working”.
“I went to see James in One Man, Two Guvnors and I thought he was incredible. I gave him a great negotiating position — I said, ‘I’m not going to do this without you’.
“If we could be fined for laughing on the set the production would have gone bust. The guy just cracks me up. I had to say, ‘Stop! We have to finish this movie!’ He is just brilliant, but also brilliant in the dramatical parts.
“He is so bright and there is no question he has global appeal. He is going to be a huge movie star.”
Weinstein will be in London for the Baftas on Sunday, when he has a clutch of movies up for awards including Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook. He will host an awards after-party in Mayfair, at Loulou’s private club.
