David Letterman brands James Corden a 'tubby kid' and questions his commitment to The Late Late Show

Talk show host David Letterman branded James Corden a “tubby kid” as he blasted the actor's move to the US to host The Late Late Show.

Letterman – who is retiring from his hosting duties on The Tonight Show – asked The Late Late Show’s Regis Philbin: "Did they give you this show? I thought it was that chubby guy that got the show, from Great Britain, from England."

The 67-year-old then challenged Corden’s commitment to his new job and questioned why the Into The Woods actor had to put his move to the US on hold.

"Well, let me ask you a question - when they said to you, 'Regis, come to New York and do a show?', did you say, 'Meh, I need four to five months to put my things in order'? No. You were here. You were here Monday, right?,” Letterman questioned.

"They call you Friday, you're here Monday. Where's the tubby kid? Who's taking over the show."

He continued to attack the 36-year-old actor saying: “If I’ve invested my money in a guy to do a show and he says ‘I’m going to need a couple of months’, that’s a flag.”

Despite stating that Corden is a "very nice fella" he continued to question whether Corden delayed his start date because "something's gone wrong".

Corden will take over from The Late Late Show's current host Craig Ferguson on March 23.
