Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay joins Morrissey biopic

Jessica Brown Findlay has signed up to join the forthcoming Morrissey biopic.

The British star, who played Lady Sybil in Downton Abbey, is thought to have been cast in a lead role in the film about the singer’s early life.

According to reports, the 26-year-old will play artist Linder Sterling, who was a close friend of the former Smiths frontman,

War and Peace actor Jack Lowden was recently confirmed to play Morrissey in the Mark Gill film, simply titled Steven.

Speaking to the Daily Mail about the musician, the 25-year-old said: “He’s a massive icon.

“He came from a working-class background, and felt out of place there.” Lowden added:

“He did a whole bunch of jobs while he figured out who he was. He wanted to get out and escape into that explosion of music that was in Manchester around that time.

“It was exhilarating, and everyone was trying to find their place.”

The film will chart Morrissey’s early years as he formed The Smiths with Johnny Marr in the early 1980s.

Steven will start shooting this month and is scheduled for release later this year.
