Ed Sheeran inadvertently managed to offend superstar Adele with an off-hand comment.

The Thinking Out Loud singer has admitted that he made a remark about an out-dated flip-phone, without realising that it had become a major talking point thanks to her Hello video.

During a private dinner with the 27-year-old, Sheeran told her that he’d decided to get rid of his current phone and buy an old-school Motorola flip.

“I'm getting rid of my phone and all my numbers. I bought a Motorola flip phone. She wasn't happy about that,” he told The Sun.

“We went out for dinner and I hadn't seen the Hello video. I said, 'I'm getting a flip phone' and she said, 'is that some sort of f*****g joke?

“I was like sat there being like, 'is it?' Someone piped up and was like, 'he hasn't seen the video'."

“I never like filming modern phones or cars,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

“They're so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you're reminded you're in reality.

“If you see an iPhone or a Toyota in a movie, they're anti-narrative, they take you out of the story and it feels like I'm making a commercial.”
