Geri Halliwell has said that starring on Sports Relief Bake Off has helped her develop a healthy relationship with food after previously suffering from bulimia.

The former Spice Girl, 43, who has been open about her former eating disorder, says that baking cakes has been a ‘landmark’ for her.

Speaking to the You Magazine, she said: “Throughout my 20s, I had bulimia. Even when I’d recovered from it, I had a distant relationship with food.

"I wanted to be a healthy example for my daughter, so I tried to have balance. But to bake properly and celebrate cake rather than run from it was such a landmark for me.”

Halliwell added: “The creativity of baking something is like writing a song; it’s a mood-changer.”

Becoming a firm favourite on the charity spin-off off the popular baking show, Halliwell went on to be crowned ‘star baker’ during one episode.

The pop star recently married Formula One team principal Christopher Horner, and is adapting to life in a ‘traditional family unit’.

She said: “For the majority of my life, I have been single. I looked after myself, I paid my own bills. I brought up a child by myself, I multitasked.

“I always wondered what it would be like to be in a traditional family unit with a husband – I think both have their merits and challenges.”
