He maybe one of the most celebrated rock stars in the world, but Sir Paul McCartney isn’t immune from the curse of the dreaded ‘dad dance’.

The former Beatle was caught in a hilarious moment at last night’s Grammy Awards as he was seen clapping and bopping along, only to realise he was being filmed, promptly sitting down in embarrassment.

Sir Paul was really getting in to ELO’s performance of Evil Woman at the 57th Grammy Awards, but at 72 he can probably be forgiven for the dodgy moves.

McCartney, who has clocked up 21 Grammy Award wins in his career, joined the music industry A-list for the annual bash which saw British singer Sam Smith win in four categories.

The Stay With Me singer's nominations put him level with long-time Grammy favourites Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams.

The 22-year-old Londoner will lead a strong British contingent at the event in Los Angeles including Ed Sheeran and Coldplay.

Sir Paul’s questionable dancing wasn’t the only dodgy decision of the night, as Madonna turned heads on the red carpet in a bizarre corset and fishnet tights combination, and rapper Kanye West stormed onto the stage in protest at Beck being awarded the gong for best album ahead of Beyoncé.
