Great British Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain has revealed plans for a second marriage to her husband.

Hussain entered into an arranged marriage with Abdal aged 19 in Bangladesh, but she is keen to tie the knot in the UK.

“We're married Islamically, but we've never done the proper vows here,” she told the Daily Mail. “So we're talking about making it all official. It's a great excuse for a party!”

Speaking about her relationship with Abdal – who she has three children with – Hussain said: “Marriage isn't easy, especially when you don't know each other very well.

“We got married six months after meeting. There were definitely times when I could have said: 'I'm done. I'm not enjoying this anymore.' But we've always been very happy. We're one of the lucky ones.”

Hussain won Great British Bake Off 2015 after she impressed judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood with her lemon drizzle wedding cake.

The baking enthusiast chose to make a “big fat British wedding cake” as she had not had one at her own wedding.

Hussain - who has joined Loose Women and is set to launch a cook book following her success on the BBC show - was asked to bake a cake for the Queen's 90th birthday.

Recalling the moment she met the monarch Hussain said: “I thought meeting Lenny Henry was going to be the pinnacle of my career.

“Then I got the phone call asking me to make the Queen’s birthday cake. When she saw it she asked what kind of cake it was and which tier she should cut. Then Prince Philip came over and she introduced me to him. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s the Queen introducing me’.

“She said, ‘This is the young lady who won the bake off’. And he said, ‘Yes dear, I know who she is, but what flavour is the cake?’.”
